Getting Started
% Daily Value (%DV) is the FDA standard printed on every nutrition label. It tells you how much a nutrient in a single serving contributes to a 2,000-calorie daily diet. DailyLabel uses %DV as the core tracking unit because it's the format you already see on food packaging. No conversion needed.
Tap the Add tab. You can search by name (powered by USDA FoodData Central), scan a barcode (pulls results from both USDA and Open Food Facts), open favorites, or create a custom food manually. Select a serving size, adjust the quantity, and tap Add.
DailyLabel pulls from two sources: the USDA FoodData Central database (for generic foods, branded foods, and some barcode/GTIN lookups) and Open Food Facts (for packaged products and barcode lookups). You'll see a colored badge on each food indicating its source: green for USDA, orange for Open Food Facts, blue for bundled sample foods, and gray for your custom entries.
Features
Pro is a one-time $4.99 purchase. No subscription. It unlocks custom nutrient tracking and label customization, add-to-food nutrient editing, multi-day trend charts, and CSV/PDF data export. The free version includes the %DV dashboard, USDA food search, barcode scanning, custom foods, iCloud sync, history, and favorites.
Yes. Tap the barcode icon in the search screen and point your camera at any UPC or EAN barcode. DailyLabel looks it up across both USDA and Open Food Facts, giving you results from both databases. If the product is found, its nutrition data is populated automatically. If not, you can add it as a custom food.
Your food log is stored entirely on-device and works offline. USDA search, Open Food Facts search, and barcode lookups require an internet connection because those queries hit external databases. The 82 bundled sample foods are always available offline.
Sync & Data
Your food log syncs automatically through Apple's CloudKit. No Pro upgrade required. Data lives in your private iCloud container. BitTech LLC never sees it. Changes propagate across supported devices signed into the same Apple ID within a few minutes. Make sure iCloud is enabled for DailyLabel in Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Apps Using iCloud.
First, confirm you're signed into the same Apple ID on both devices and that iCloud is enabled for DailyLabel. Check that you have an active internet connection and available iCloud storage. If sync still doesn't work, try toggling iCloud off and on for DailyLabel in Settings. Changes can take a few minutes to propagate.
Yes. Pro includes CSV and PDF export. You can export your food log from the Trends screen. Your data is stored on-device and, if iCloud sync is enabled, in your private iCloud account.
Purchases
Go to the Pro upgrade screen and tap "Restore Purchases." This checks your Apple ID for an existing purchase and re-activates Pro. Make sure you're signed into the same Apple ID you used for the original purchase.
Try tapping "Restore Purchases" first. If that doesn't work, force-close and reopen the app. If Pro still isn't active, email Loading… with your approximate purchase date and any App Store receipt/order details you're comfortable sharing. Please do not send passwords or payment-card details.
All purchases are processed by Apple. To request a refund, visit reportaproblem.apple.com and select the DailyLabel purchase. Apple handles all refund decisions for App Store transactions.
Troubleshooting
Make sure you're running the latest version from the App Store. If the crash persists, try restarting your device. As a last resort, delete and reinstall the app only if iCloud sync is enabled and current, since purely local data is removed when the app is deleted. Email us if the issue continues.
Barcode matching checks USDA FoodData Central and Open Food Facts. Not every product is listed in either source, and some packaged foods have incomplete data. If DailyLabel cannot find the barcode, you can add the food manually as a custom entry, or contribute the product to Open Food Facts so it's available for everyone in the future.
Try being more specific with your search terms. For example, "chicken breast raw" instead of just "chicken." USDA results include many variations (raw, cooked, branded). If you can't find an exact match, pick the closest one or create a custom food with the nutrition facts from the packaging.
